African-American Men Pay More For Auto Insurance Than Other Races
Online auto insurance vendor 4AutoInsuranceQuote.org has released the results of a study that indicates African-Americans pay higher automobile insurance premiums on average than people of other races.
The study examined annual premiums for men in New York City, and found black men pay an average of $800 more than white or Asians men.
What factors are impacting auto insurance rates for African-Americans? While insurers do not discriminate against black drivers, 4AutoInsuranceQuote.org found insurers may place a greater emphasis on certain factors where African-Americans score poorly, including: credit score, the safety of the area where they live, marital status and employment status.
4AutoInsuranceQuote.org polled 600 male drivers who reside in Manhattan. The results were incredibly lopsided. Asian men paid an average of $1,945 per year; white men paid $2,193; black men paid $2,910 per year.
New York-based 4AutoInsuranceQuote.org was launched in 2008.
